STUDIO NOTE 04
Art Direction for Image-Led Websites
Choosing imagery, cropping and typography that tell one coherent story across a digital experience.
An image-led website starts with selection. Each photograph or visual should have a role: establish the mood, explain a product, reveal a detail or move the narrative forward. A smaller collection with a clear direction often gives the work more room to speak.
Create a point of view.
Cropping is part of the design. A wide image can set a scene, while a closer view can draw attention to material, texture or expression. We review those choices on desktop and mobile so that the important subject survives the change in proportion.

Design around the content.
Typography and spacing set the pace around the imagery. Captions add context, navigation keeps the story accessible and considered loading behavior helps people reach the work. The result should feel like one connected visual world, from the opening image to the final project detail.
A practical starting point
Define the role of every image before selecting it.
Check the crop and focal point at each breakpoint.
Support visual storytelling with clear hierarchy and useful alt text.
